In modern times, a disturbance of borderline personality arouses wide interest. Despite the often described aetiology of borderline personality disorders, which it is right to look for in early childhood traumatic events, there is still no research to compare the effects of these experiences in adulthood. Aim of the study. The aim of the study was to examine the level of compatibility between attachment styles in childhood and adulthood in a group of healthy people and with borderline personality disorders. The main research problem of the work was related to the results of research on the constancy of attachment styles. Material and methods. The survey was conducted in the city of Poznań, among 220 randomly selected persons, including students of Poznań universities. From this group 30 people with borderline personality disorders and 30 healthy people were distinguished. The study used Borderline Personality Disorders Questionnaire (Leichsenring, 1999) and Chris Fraley's ECR-RS Attachment Patterns Questionnaire (Experiences in Close Relationships – Relationship Structures, ECR-RS; Fraley et al. , 2011). Results. In the group of healthy people, the style of attachment to the father turned out to be important, while in the group of people with a borderline personality disorder – mainly the style of attachment to the mother. When asked about the differences between attachment styles in childhood and adulthood, the researchers showed a change in styles, noting, among other things, that both healthy people and people with a borderline personality disorder are more anxiously attached to their partner than to their mother and father. Conslusions. The study proved the relationship between attachment styles and the changeability of attachment styles in childhood and adulthood among the subjects under study. It is generally concluded that early childhood attachment styles are more avoidance-oriented, while adult attachment styles are more ascribed to the anxiety model of attachment.

Key words: borderline personality, attachment, borderline personality disorder.
