Introduction. Parasitoses have accompanied people for thousands of years, however fighting parasites is still far from the expected results. Nowadays, we are increasingly aware that parasites pose a threat to our health and even our lives. All cases of 14 parasitic diseases were mandatorily reported to the State Sanitary Inspection in Poland up to the December 2008. According to Act only following diseases have been reported to SSI since January 2009 (echinococcosis, cysticercoids, giardiasis, cryptosporidiosis, congenital toxoplasmosis, trichinosis and malaria). Aim. Analysis incidence rates of parasitoses subject to obligation reporting. Material and methods. The data from the PZH bulletin (2004–2016) were analyzed for prevalence of newly diagnosed parasitoses reported to SSI. The incidence rates were calculated for 100 000 persons, and additionally the scabies incidence rate was retrieved from DRG data obtained from National Health Fund. Results. In 2009–2016 the number of cases is at an equal level (except for congenital toxoplasmosis) and the incidence rates do not exceed 10, i.e. they do not constitute an epidemiological threat. Since 2009 the cases of scabies, enterobiasis or ascariasis are no longer reported to SSI. In 2008 for scabies the incidence rate was 29, for enterobiasis – 14.9 and for ascariasis – 15.3. However, we do not know the current and actual data on those diseases in Poland. Conclusions. The above information indicates that although we are currently experiencing a decrease of the parasitoses, it should not be forgotten about their occurrence, as the parasites continue to circulate in the human environment and can cause serious ailments.

Key words: prevalence, parasitoses, incidence rates.
