Introduction. Maternity is most often seen as a positive and joyful event, but it is associated with many changes in the somatic, social and psychological aspects of women’s lives. Physical exertion, somatic ailments that accompany delivery and the need to adapt quickly to the new situation cause the experience of being a mother in the early postpartum period to influence the subjective assessment of the quality of life. The ability to assess the women’s quality of life in the early postpartum period by their caregivers may improve their subjective quality of life. Aim of the study. The aim of the study was to show the relationship between the way of completing a pregnancy and the primiparas quality of life in early postpartum period. Material and methods. The study included 200 women – primiparas in early puerperium, 100 of whom were after vaginal delivery and 100 of whom were after cesarean section. The study was conducted using the diagnostic survey method using the author’s original questionnaire and the standardized EQ-5D-3L quality of life questionnaire. Results. In the course of the study, a number of statistically significant correlations were found, for example, between the way of completing the pregnancy and the women’s ability to move (p < 0.001) and their ability for self-care (p < 0.001). There was no statistically significant relationship (p = 0.141) between the mode of delivery and feeling anxiety. Conclusions. The primiparas in the early postpartum period after vaginal delivery had a better quality of life compared to the primiparas after cesarean section and the correlation was statistically significant.

Key words: quality of life, vaginal delivery, cesarean section, primiparas.
