Introduction. While planning pregnancy, it is advised to talk to your doctor about current or past systemic diseases. The priority is to collect family history and information concerning previous pregnancies, innate and genetic disorders, hypertension, diabetes, autoimmune and systemic diseases. It is important to conduct the gynecological interviews about presence of myomas, developmental disability, past infections, contraception and infertility treatment. The woman’s body is physiologically prepared for stress and changes connected with the pregnancy. Pregnancy is the time for the child as well as for the parents. Aim of the study. The purpose of the study is to assess the physical condition of pregnant women. These aims are pursued by analyzing the socio-demographic profile and physical assessment before and during pregnancy. The next goal is to characterize the symptoms of pain and other reasons of reducing physical activity, as well as to assess knowledge about the physiotherapeutic procedures used during pregnancy. Material and methods. The study was conducted among 101 patients hospitalized between June 2016 and January 2017 in the Gynecological Section of the Health Care Team. The most important information was collected through a questionnaire with 34 questions. The survey collected data of place of residence, age, marital status, education, body weight, BMI, occupation and diseases. Additionally, women were asked whether pregnancy was planned. It was also important to have information about medical care, health education for pregnancy, physical activity and childbirth classes. Most of the surveyed women were from the cities of 20–100 thousand people, between the age of 26–30, married and had a university degree. Patients received instructions about filling in the questionnaire and were assured that all information is confidential. Participation in the analysis was voluntary. Results. Based on the analysis results confirmed the physical activity is part of a healthy lifestyle and it improves the well-being of the exerciser. It does not have to be connected with intensive effort. Even a walk in the open air is a form of activity. Such exercises have gained the widespread recognition. Physical activity has positive influence on keeping proper posture and it prevents women from excessive weight gain. Conclusions. The most common form of physical activity taken by women were walks, both before and during pregnancy. The analyzed group of respondents stated that this type of activity had a significant impact on their physical condition and well-being. In the opinion of patients who were not active, the spine pain intensified along with every week of pregnancy. There was no excessive weight gain in physically active group. The most common source of knowledge about physical health and safety during pregnancy was the gynecologist and midwife. While analyzing the research results it was noticed that women with higher education degree were more aware of significance of physical education during pregnancy.
